REQUEST FOR (RFP) FOR THE REFURBISHMENT OF RAILS BY MEANS OF FIELD WELDING AND GRINDING OF RAIL MANUFACTURED CROSSINGS, WHEEL SPIN BURNS (SKID MARKS) BATTERED ENDS REMOVAL OF ULTRASONIC DEFECTS BY MEANS OF EXOTHERMIC WELDING OF RAIL JOINT (48KG/M,57KG/M AND60KG/M AND GRINDING OF OVERLAPS ON TURNOUTS ON “AS AND WHEN” REQUIRED BASIS FOR PERIOD OF 36 MONTHS IN THE METRORAIL GAUTENG REGION.

What this tender is about

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) is inviting small businesses to submit bids for the refurbishment of rails. This includes field welding and grinding of rail manufactured crossings, removal of wheel spin burns and battered ends, and addressing ultrasonic defects through exothermic welding of rail joints. The work also covers grinding of overlaps on turnouts. Services will be required on an 'as and when' basis for a period of 36 months within the Metrorail Gauteng Region. A compulsory briefing session will be held on 18 September 2026. Bids must be submitted by 9 October 2026.

Scope of work

• Refurbishment of rails by means of field welding and grinding of rail manufactured crossings.
• Removal of wheel spin burns (skid marks) and battered ends.
• Addressing ultrasonic defects by means of exothermic welding of rail joints (48kg/m, 57kg/m and 60kg/m).
• Grinding of overlaps on turnouts.
• Services to be provided on an 'as and when' required basis for 36 months.
